The Staff, the Luau, the location, and view from our balcony were great.
It was noisier than I would have liked with kids in the pool and adults late at night. Also the rules about the daily card/towels were unclear. We were never charged but it was inconvenient to not be able to get towels before 8am and not be able to keep them over night.

Quaint bay beach right in front of the hotel, quiet waters and very safe for kids. Beach and restaurant facilities spotless. House keeping was lacking. Our rooms got skipped on their every other day service routine, and we were left with a pile of dirty towels for two days. Efforts to remodel/update rooms actively on its way. There were rooms getting new paint and repairs done on our floor all week long. Ocean view balcony was a pleasant place to start and finish the day. Live entertainment in the hotel was varied and fun. Breakfast buffet is plentiful and good. Cheaper options nearby. Highly recommend Fish Hopper just a block down the boardwalk.

It’s very convenient to walk to restaurants and explore around the resort.
Our room has so my stains on the carpet (of course, I talked to the front desk as soon as I noticed the stains in the room since day 1)
Overall, I will be back to stay here again in the future because it’s so convenient for me and the kids.

Our family of four had a terrible experience staying in this hotel for one night ($666.59 for two queen beds).
(1) Hotel reservation: We got the impression of being offered a “bait and switch”. We booked specifically for a room with an ocean view and paid a premium price but were put into a room with no view at all. Even worse, we were initially put into a room next to the main elevators, with a paper-thin wall between the elevators and beds in the room. Every time the elevator moves, you can hear noises loud enough to wake you up at night. I couldn’t understand why it was used as a hotel room – it should be a utility or janitor’s closet instead. After going back to the lobby and talking to the staff, we were moved into another room on the back side of the building (not overseeing the ocean, but overseeing the main dumpster area of the building). From the balcony, you could sense strong smells from the dumpster.
(2) Hotel staff: We got the impression that we were mistreated on purpose. While talking to them about the elevator’s noise, we realized that the staff knew about the noise problem all along – they did not ask any questions about the noise. To me, that’s not acting in good faith – if they already knew the room was inhabitable (couldn’t sleep without being woken up by loud elevator noises), why did they still put us into that room? Do they believe that customers with certain profiles are more tolerant?

Excellent location. Easy parking (for a daily fee) and the staff was super friendly. Easy access to a very family friendly sand beach with some snorkeling available. Right next to main strip for easy walking to restaurants and shops. Super friendly staff BUT the concierge was super rude but apparently isn't owned/operated by hotel? So I'm not blaming the hotel for that. Overall fantastic stay!

We stayed here for our first family vacation, and we loved every minute of it! The staff was super friendly and helpful (especially our waitress, Maria, at the Honu's breakfast buffet), the food was delicious, and the beach was a great shallow snorkeling spot with a beautiful variety of Hawaiian reef fish. Our room was clean and quiet, and there were many restaurants, tour operators, and interesting shops within a five minute walk. This hotel gets a 5 star rating from us!

My room was large and clean, but showing its age. Friendly and very helpful housekeeping. The hotel receptionist was on the ball. Love the paintings of Herb Kane. I like the local flair. Good location. Nice for families.

Very well located with multiple dinning and entertaining option. Beautiful private beach and pier to look at fishes. Perfect location for snorkeling and activity with kids. We really enjoyed our vacation. dinning option is outstanding in the area around the hotel.

My husband and I chose here for our first Hawaiian family vacation with two little kids. We had wonderful front desk staff check us in. The room was nice, but very small. The room had no privacy for mom to change (the bathroom was even too small for changing). The bathroom also had no place to hang towels, even though it was suggested to hang towels for reuse. You wuold think there would not only be towel hangers, but extras for bathing suits to dry since it's so near a pool and beach. The pillows in the room were amazing. We really liked the pool and the pool bar, the staff were friendly and the drinks were good. We really liked the coupons for two free Mai Tais, that was very nice for us parents. The pool was very family friendly, we loved that. The beach was well maintained, if a bit small. We really liked the walkability and location, having kids but no car we were still able to explore Kona. We really wish there had been a shuttle to and from the airport, that would have been really convenient. We had a good experience with the Concierge who helped us sign up for a tour of the Island. All in all we had a great vacation, just a few tiny things like the lack of room in our room for private changing, the missing towel racks/hangers, and the lack of airport transportation were notable for us.
